“To teach is to demonstrate… The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice… Teaching is but a call to witnesses to attest to what you believe… Any situation must be to you a chance to teach others what you are, and what they are to you…” From A Course in Miracles, excerpts from the Manual for Teachers:
My name is Patty Kelley-and I am the Change Teacher. My vocational direction has taken a complete
“one-eighty”-a path altering life-change that might appear to be sudden to some, but, when examined has been in the making for many, many years. I could no longer continue to deny who I was, or what I had been called to do. [See the story]
In Parker J. Palmer’s book, Let Your Life Speak-he writes, “Our deepest calling is to grow into our own authentic selfhood, whether or not it conforms to some image of who we ought to be.” And let me add-who others think we should be.
I have made that turn into authentic selfhood.
In looking back over my life, I can see clearly that I have always been a teacher, a person that loved to inspire and help others. Our life always gives us clues as to who we are-and why we are here. We just ignore them most of the time. I have also always had a thirst for knowledge-and a deep “knowing” that there was much more to life than what I was being taught, and what I could see.
I now use my innate, learned and acquired gifts skills and talents along with a growing intuitive ability and deepening wisdom to help and inspire others through my coaching, consulting, speaking and writing.
It’s impossible to teach what you don’t know-and my life has been a veritable classroom of life altering, humbling, heart opening, enlightening, enriching and empowering change. As a teacher-I will always be a student. Just as all students will be teachers. One is always the mirror to the other.
My professional career path has taken many turns. I have always had an adventurous spirit that struggled under the constraints of corporate culture and the games of one-upmanship. Again, as I look back-just more “training.”
For the most part, I have been a marketing and PR consultant, writer and speaker. My articles have been published internationally. Most of what I have written has been on marketing, business, conscious marketing in the horse business, conscious communications, Law of Attraction, Change and spirituality, and the prison dog programs.
My life’s path and journey has been influenced by dozens of known writers and teachers, past and present. These include Joseph Campbell, Ernest Holmes, Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Jesus, the Buddha, Lao-tzu, the Dalai Lama, Rumi, James Allen, James Redfield, Dan Millman, Neale Donald Walsch, Shakti Gaiwan, Mary Manin Morrissey, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra, Wallace D.Wattles, Alan Cohen, Gary Zukov, Lynn Grabhorn, Dr. Jean Houston, Martin Luther King Jr., Parker J. Palmer, Dr. Michael Beckwith and Robert Collier, to name just a few.
Only their family and friends and I know most of my greatest teachers. They are not famous-and many have no clue they were my teachers and how they, in some cases, profoundly influenced my life. This includes the ones that were toxic to me, fired me, lied to and betrayed me, and told me I wasn’t good enough in some way. They provided clarity in the rearview mirror. With some, my greatest lessons and freedom came in forgiving them. Some of those closest to me are acutely aware of how much their love, caring and friendship mean to me. They have been teachers of love and acceptance, friendship and forgiveness to me.
